San Onofre State beach painting is 11"x 14" in size with the straw matting. Very vibrant color surf painting with a view of the famous surf break at San Onofre. Woody with surboards on top and surfers riding waves in background of painting. Great surfer painting for your home, office, work, or a perfect gift for someone! Located near the North San Diego county line, San Onofre stands out among surf spots in the heart of many surfers who feel that returning here is like a homecoming. Although known throughout the world as one of the best places to longboard, San Onofre is much more than that. It is a place where the clasic traditions of surfing in North America began, and where the influence of the Hawiian and Tahitian Islands have made a profound mark. In the 1920's and 1930's, the San Onofre Fishing Camp was marked by a sign on a railroad platform. In the 1930's a strong South Pacific influence emerged, introducing luaus, hula, and island music. San Onofre became a melting pot of surfers from all areas. Barney Wilkes was instrumental in the formation of the San Onofre Surf Club in 1952. The club ensured access through the military base and helped to control the number of people on the beach and in the waves. Organized competition began for all ages. The breaks at and near San Onofre include Dogpatch, Old Mans, Four Doors, The Point, Mecca, Church, Trestles, & Cottons. |
